Announcing the donations of Little Brown House and Desert Predella to the permanent collection of The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho.
These works will join the earlier acquisition of Minnie and contribute to the art exhibits and educational outreach opportunities in southeastern Idaho, which was a significant region in the creative life of SARA.
The Family of the Artist thanks the generosity of SARA’s longtime friend, Kathleen Marie Lacey, who donated Little Brown House from her private collection, and the staff and volunteers at TAM for continuing to honor SARA’s legacy.
It gives me great pleasure to join SARA’s family in donating a piece of her clay art to the Permanent Collection of The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. SARA’s art has inspired, brought joy, inspiration and solace to me for over forty years. The opportunity to donate this piece, that others may experience inspiration and delight, is a gift to me in return.
Little Brown House could be termed a ‘please-use-me sculpture’. For years this piece rested on a shelf in my home with quiet beauty, holding special letters, including those from Sara. At one time, Hen and Chicks were planted in it just as Sara had done with a companion piece that she placed at the entrance of the Little Brown House and Studio in Pocatello. From 2000-2020 it nestled beside the fireplace of my home in Boise, appreciated by my family and many, many visitors.
This piece is estimated to have been sculptured around 1970. Sara sent Little Brown House home with me from a visit to her in Genesee in the mid-1980s.
Please accept this piece of Sara’s art with gratitude for the joy it has brought over 4 decades, appreciating it in many of Sara’s studio homes, and with profound delight, in my home.
