FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Hazel, Acrylic on paper 17 x 15 (Genesee Women Series)

March 12, 2019 (GENESEE, Idaho) — Studio 84 and Little Pink House Gallery announce the second show in the new contemporary art space in downtown Genesee on March 30 and 31, and April 6 and 7. The exhibit, titled Intersection: the work of Sara Joyce and Ellen Vieth, will celebrate the art and friendship of Joyce and Vieth in the studio they once shared. Studio 84 is located at 134. W. Walnut Ave. Exhibition hours are 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Intersection also celebrates place.

“I felt as if I had been given a huge gift, having met someone else in this rural farming community who was as interested in fine contemporary art as I,” says Vieth, owner and curator of Studio 84, of her friendship with Joyce.  “We discussed art, philosophy, community, fabric, antiques, family, children and the importance of conversation. We covered a lot, talking at her table while sharing chocolate, coffee and almonds.”

The featured work of Joyce (1923-2011) will include portraits and landscapes made during her time in Genesee, fabric sculptures, original notes and drawings, and artifacts from her studios and homes. Some of the work is from private collections; three portraits from her Genesee Women Series will be for sale, providing a rare opportunity to purchase her work.

Vieth’s paintings will explore a fondness for the rural Idaho landscapes which still inspire her work. The sculptures of Moscow artist, David Herbold, and Illinois ceramicist, Jill Birschbach, will also be represented and will speak to the fascination that Joyce had with her homes in Genesee, and how she created and honored space.

“This show is a nod to friendship and how artist communities, whether two people or a roomful or in a house on Ninth Street, work to support each other,” adds Vieth.
