The journal works of the artist SARA Joyce encompass thousands of entries spread over 27 collective workbooks, sketch books, handmade books, ledger book, and assorted loose papers.

The collection of books and journals span more than 3,000 pages and vary in size, medium, and paper varieties. These journals provide provenance and foundation for the 370 plus major works of art that SARA produced in her lifetime.

The journals contain over 170 signed standalone works, hundreds of non-signed drawings, thousands of sketches, and many dream stories. These works were done in crayon, marker, pencil, pen, and occasional watercolor.

SARA slept with her notebooks by her bed and kept a journal at her table. She wrote in them at great lengths. She recorded her dream stories visually by creating sketches and dream drawings.  Her journals were an assemblage of homemade books, artist sketchbooks and practically any type of loose-leaf paper, used envelopes, notebooks, ledger, or other recycled papers.
